Sprint Newsroom: Sprint Challenges Competitors’ Shared Data Plans With New Advertising Campaign “Say No To Sharing” and “Say Yes To Sprint”
Sprint Nextel Corporation has posted the following release to its Newsroom website:
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (BUSINESS WIRE), August 31, 2012 - To highlight the advantages of its Truly Unlimitedsm data plans compared to the shared data plans offered by competitors, today Sprint (NYSE: S) launched an integrated marketing campaign that encourages consumers to "Say No To Sharing" and "Say Yes To Sprint." The campaign, created by Sprint and its agency Team Sprint – Digitas and Leo Burnett – includes a national TV commercial, print advertisements, social media outreach, online digital banners and retail integrations.
"The concept of sharing a monthly data allowance across a family or group of users increases the likelihood for a surprise monthly bill due to data overage charges," said Caralene Robinson, vice president- Brand Strategy and Marketing Communications, Sprint. "Data usage continues to increase and consumers value Truly Unlimited data because it's simple and straightforward. This campaign is designed to eliminate the confusion and skepticism about who offers Truly Unlimited data plans without the costly catch of sharing metered data attached. It's Sprint."
In the TV ad titled "Family Meeting" viewers see a family sitting at the kitchen table debating how they will divide the shared gigabytes of their data plan. Several ideas are thrown out by family members and ultimately no decision is reached. It's designed to show the difficulty and anxiety caused when several people are forced to share a limited amount of data with one another. The spot ends with a call to action: "Say No To Sharing" and "Say Yes To Sprint," with Truly Unlimited data, text and calling to any mobile phone. No throttling, no metering and no costly overages. All while on the Sprint network.
The idea behind the campaign is that nobody really wants to share their data plans, especially when there are limits. Additionally, it's nearly impossible for people to know how much data they are consuming each time they use their smartphone because the data consumed varies depending on the activity and when multiple users are consuming varied amounts of data costly overages can easily occur. For wireless consumers the solution is a Truly Unlimited data plan from Sprint which offers data without the need for compromise because there's no sharing.
With Sprint, customers can take advantage of Truly Unlimited data on a wide selection of plans, a great line-up of devices all with exceptional customer care. The combination of value, industry-leading devices and customer service sets Sprint apart.
- Unlimited value: The Truly Unlimited data plans from Sprint offer a great value to new and existing customers and Sprint will continue to offer them to customers.
- Award-winning smartphones: Sprint offers a variety of award-winning devices, including the iPhone 4S, Samsung Galaxy S® III and HTC EVO™ 4G LTE, that allow customers to take advantage of all the services and features that make the most of Truly Unlimited data.
- First-place customer service: Sprint is No. 1 among all national carriers in customer satisfaction and most improved, across all 47 industries measured, during the last four years, according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI). Sprint is also the only U.S. company to go from last place to first place in its industry during that four-year period.

Sprint Newsroom: Sprint Enhances Charlotte’s Network for Thousands of Delegates, Volunteers and Journalists Attending the 2012 Democratic National Convention
Sprint Nextel Corporation has posted the following release to its Newsroom website:
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (BUSINESS WIRE), August 31, 2012 - Sprint [NYSE: S] loves it when customers stay politically engaged using its wireless services, truly unlimited data plans, smartphones and tablets – whether it's receiving a text message about a candidate's volunteer event or linking a candidate's latest speech to their favorite social media site.
For the estimated 50,000 delegates, volunteers, journalists, staff and visitors expected to convene in Charlotte next week for the 2012 Democratic National Convention, Sprint is enhancing capacity and coverage for voice, text messaging and data to serve their round-the-clock needs.
In preparation, Sprint performed detailed network performance analysis of the uptown Charlotte area by reviewing historical cell site traffic and analyzing blocks and drops that occurred during past special events. Sprint's network enhancements in Charlotte include:
- Investing approximately $14 million to augment in-building wireless service and point-to-point coverage as convention attendees move between venues.
- Boosting wireless coverage and capacity on the uptown Charlotte network between 25 and 50 percent by adding two macro cell sites and installing voice and data carriers to 18 existing area cell sites.
- Deploying three COW (Cell Sites on Wheels) – two at the Time Warner Arena and one at the Bank of America Stadium – to enhance capacity and coverage for voice, data and text messaging at and between these venues.
- Supplying to each official convention venue a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) to provide the necessary in-building coverage and the dedicated capacity needed to support the anticipated number of attendees at each location.
"Sprint is proud to support the thousands of delegates, staff, volunteers and media attending the convention, by providing the necessary wireless enhancements to get immediate convention details, post photos and videos to their favorite social media sites, and send email and text messages to their friends and colleagues," said Steve Elfman, president-Network Operations & Wholesale, Sprint. "Sprint takes great pride in offering customers an unlimited data experience and we want them to enjoy events like this with seamless service and without worry for a need to curb their wireless usage."
Network enhancements are not limited to Charlotte. Sprint is also deploying Network Vision, an all-new nationwide 3G/4G network, which will provide better 3G service – with a stronger wireless signal, faster data speeds, expanded coverage and better in-building performance – and a 4G LTE network with faster speeds for data applications. Sprint debuted 4G LTE in 15 cities on July 15 and continues to turn on the network many more markets. Up-to-date details on Sprint's Network Vision can be found on www.sprint.com/4GLTE.
Sprint social media contest for the Samsung Galaxy S III
In addition to providing enhanced wireless for convention-goers, Sprint is offering Twitter users a chance to win a marble white Sprint 4G LTE-capable Samsung Galaxy S® III on Thursday, Sept. 6 – the final night of the Democratic National Convention.
Between 10 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. EDT, contest participants will be asked to tweet to @Sprint explaining how they would use a Samsung Galaxy S III and a Sprint unlimited data plan to stay engaged during the 2012 presidential election. All tweets are required to include the hashtag #SprintElection2012. Complete contest rules and entry requirements can be found online.

Sprint Newsroom: Sprint continues nationwide 4G LTE expansion, adding four more cities to broaden its coverage
Sprint Nextel Corporation has posted the following release to its Newsroom website:
Sprint continues nationwide 4G LTE expansion, adding four more cities to broaden its coverage
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (BUSINESS WIRE), August 29, 2012 - Sprint (NYSE:S) today introduced its 4G LTE high-speed data network to customers in Baltimore, Md., Gainesville, Ga., Manhattan/Junction City, Kan., and Sedalia, Mo. Additionally, Sprint customers in Baltimore, Boston and Washington, D.C., are beginning to enjoy the benefits of Sprint's all-new 3G service – which is expected to deliver an exceptionally clear signal, better in-building coverage and fewer dropped/blocked calls.
Sprint was the first national wireless carrier to introduce 4G service in 2008, and today's 3G/4G network improvements mark another step forward in the company's overall network strategy, known as Network Vision.
According to a CTIA survey of wireless customers, wireless data traffic increased 123 percent from 2010 to 2011. Network Vision is specifically designed to meet the growing 3G and 4G LTE network demands of wireless subscribers. People want to use their smartphones, tablets and wireless hotspots where they live, work and play.
"Our customers are enjoying new applications and devices that increase the demand for mobile data," said Bob Azzi, senior vice president-Network, Sprint. "The network build-out – that today is playing out in four new cities – will provide nothing less than a state-of-the art network platform for the next generation of customers. Customers across the country will begin to experience better 3G service on their devices and will be able to take advantage of 4G LTE on cutting-edge devices as we continue to launch more cities."
In Baltimore, customers will begin to see 4G LTE signals in the Inner Harbor, Fells Point, Federal Hill and Pikesville areas – with more sites being turned on in the days and weeks ahead. With the addition of 4G LTE and the upgrades to 3G service, the Sprint network in these areas can handle more voice and data traffic. Today's network upgrades are expected to make sending text messages, surfing the Web, sharing photos, and streaming music and videos easier, faster and more reliable.
As consumers all over the country are becoming more dependent on their smartphones, network quality is becoming more important. In addition to Baltimore, Sprint is aggressively improving the 3G experience city by city. Today, customers in Boston and Washington, D.C., should also notice improved 3G cell coverage, reduced roaming and faster data speeds. The work to build Sprint's all-new network will continue in other markets across the country. Sherman-Dennison, Texas, is expected to see 4G LTE service in the weeks ahead.
In today's competitive wireless market, the value of unlimited has never been more apparent. Sprint's Everything Data plan with Any Mobile, AnytimeSM includes unlimited data, texting and calling to and from any mobile phone in America while on the Sprint network, starting at just $79.99 per month for smartphones (pricing excludes taxes and surcharges).
During the past several years, Sprint has been working hard to deliver the best customer experience. The 2012 American Customer Satisfaction Index ranked Sprint No. 1 among all national carriers in customer satisfaction and most improved, across all 47 industries, during the last four years. Building an all-new network is the linchpin to make Sprint the company customers want to do business with.
Sprint 4G LTE made its debut in 15 cities on July 15, and the company plans to introduce more markets to the network in 2012. By the end of 2013, Sprint expects to have largely completed the build-out of its all-new 4G LTE and 3G nationwide network. Sprint Newsroom: Sprint Prepares as Hurricane Isaac Reaches the Gulf Coast
Sprint Nextel Corporation has posted the following release to its Newsroom website:
Sprint Prepares as Hurricane Isaac Reaches the Gulf Coast
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (BUSINESS WIRE), August 28, 2012 - Sprint (NYSE:S) is preparing its network, mobilizing Network Disaster Recovery staff, and staging Sprint Emergency Response Team (ERT) resources along the Gulf Coast as Hurricane Isaac continues to gain strength as a Category 1 storm and head towards the states of Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi.
Ahead of the 2012 hurricane season, Sprint invested more than $100 million to increase capacity and expand its wireless networks in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi, including approximately $44 million in the New Orleans market, close to $2 million along Mississippi's Gulf Coast and $1.4 million along Alabama's Gulf Coast.
Sprint's continued preparations for Hurricane Isaac include:
- Fully fueling all permanent generators and working to ensure the availability of portable generators as necessary to meet the response needs based on Isaac's current track and intensity.
- Fully fueling all network Points of Presence (POP) – the facilities where traffic enters and leaves the company's global IP network, which facilitate dedicated data services for Sprint's corporate and government customers, as well as other critical communications.
- Ensuring Sprint network reservist strike teams are on standby and ready to deploy following Isaac's landfall.
- Activating Sprint ERT's 25 wireless devices with service free of charge for 14 days for state and local agencies needing emergency communication assistance in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi following the official state of emergency that has been declared in these states.
- Preparing and mobilizing the Sprint Emergency Response Team's SatCOLT (Satellite Cell on Light Truck) assets, mobile phone and broadband devices, staff and other equipment at its hubs in Texas and Florida to deploy needed resources to local first responders, emergency command centers and other public safety officials.
Additionally, with the aid of Sprint's 3G/4G wireless service and mobile devices, weather data and hurricane awareness expert, Mark Sudduth of HurricaneTrack.com, is providing a live online stream of Isaac's landfall from the coast of Gulfport, Miss.
Since 2001, Sprint has worked with Sudduth and his team to provide live, quick and seamless reporting during every hurricane season. Sprint has supplied HurricaneTrack.com with Sprint 3G and 4G mobile phones and broadband devices for fast and reliable mobile broadband connectivity for its in-the-field data collection and online video reporting. Sudduth is based in Wilmington, N.C., and has reported on more than 50 named tropical storms and hurricanes along the Atlantic Coast since 1998.
Wireless consumers residing in Isaac's projected path are also encouraged to use the following tips to prepare for a hurricane, severe flood or other natural disasters:
- Keep your wireless phone and backup batteries fully charged, and be aware that an interruption of wireline and commercial power could affect wireless calls.
- If possible, get extra batteries and charge them.
- In times of commercial power outages, a car adapter for your wireless phone should enable you to recharge the battery.
- Keep phones and necessary accessories in a sealed plastic bag to avoid water damage.
- Load family and emergency numbers into your wireless phone.
- Use your Sprint camera phone to take digital pictures or video of your property and valuables before the storm hits, so you have "before" pictures in the event of any storm damage.
- Wireless networks sometimes experience heavy traffic during emergency events, so rather than call, remember to use Sprint® Direct Connect® or send a text message.
In addition to the $100 million invested to increase capacity, Sprint is also deploying Network Vision. Customers in select markets are beginning to enjoy the benefits of Network Vision, an all-new nationwide 3G/4G network. This new network provides better 3G service – with a stronger wireless signal, faster data speeds, expanded coverage and better in-building performance – and a 4G LTE network with faster speeds for data applications.
